The 1930 Census Report

Digging through some old boxes mom left behind I found a 1930 Census report for my grandmother. It read: Bernettia Jane Lassiter was emancipated in the family of Jack Bizzell in the 1930 Census. She was 19 years old. Hmmm emancipated ... it was the 1930s. I can visualize that Census taker being an old white man looking down on the 5'1 Jack Bizzell and his 4'8 19 year old daughter Bernettia.
